This week we all need to hope that the recent elections in the DRC will have a very positive result for peace and stability there. It's the first democratic election held in 41 years.

Having made appeals for suggestions on raising funds to complete a much needed mini-hospital in Ndola-Zambia and another in Harare-Zimbabwe, it would be heartening to receive some positive input from Readers.
Likewise my suggestion that people get involved in establishing a fund to repatriate injured South Africans that don't have Insurance Cover. Of course everyone is strongly advised to acquire such insurance below departure, it's not always possible when travelling at short notice.

    Till next week.

'SA is obsessed with wealth'29/07/2006 23:11 - (SA)
Johannesburg - South Africans must defeat the tendency towards worshipping personal wealth, said President Thabo Mbeki on Saturday.
He was presenting the fourth Nelson Mandela annual lecture at Wits University in Johannesburg.
Personal wealth was becoming the distinguishing feature of the new citizen of the new South Africa, he said.
"Every day, and during every hour of our time beyond sleep, the demons embedded in our society, that stalk us at every minute, seem always to beckon each one of us towards a realisable dream and nightmare," said Mbeki.
"With every passing second, they advice, with rhythmic and hypnotic regularity - get rich, get rich, get rich.
"And thus it has come about that many of us accept our common natural instinct to escape from poverty is but the other side of the same coin on whose reverse side is written the words - at all costs, get rich."
Mbeki said there had been a tendency "to pay little tactical regard towards what each one of us might do to assist our neighbour to achieve the goal of a better life".
